If an 11 foot tall ladder leans against a wall, and the base of the ladder makes a 24 degree angle with the ground, how far up the wall does the ladder go?

Use the fact that sine = opposite / hypotenuse to get

\sin(24^\circ) = \frac{opp}{11}\,

So that

opp = 11\cdot\sin(24^\circ)=4.47\, feet.
