Find the value of y, if the line joining $(3,y),(2,7)\,$ is parallel to the line joining $(-1,4),(0,6)\,</math Slope of the line joining <math>(3,y),(2,7)\,$ is

$\frac{7-y}{2-3}=y-7\,$

Slope of the line joining $(-1,4),(0,6)\,$ is

$\frac{6-4}{0+1}=2\,$

Since the two lines are parallel,the condition is that their slopes are equal,

Hence

$y-7=2\,$

Hence y=9.
