Find the ratio in which the straight line3x-4y-7=0\, divides the line joining the points (2,-7),(-1,3)\,

By applying the formula for the ratio,we get

{\frac {-(3\cdot 2-4\cdot -7-7)}{(3\cdot -1-4\cdot 3-7)}}\,

{\frac {-(6+28-7)}{(-3-12-7)}}\,

{\frac {-27}{-22}}\,

Hence the ratio is 27:22
