Find the equation of the straight line passing through (4,-3)\, and parallel tothe line joining (6,3),(-4,5)\,.

The slope of the line is

{\frac {5-3}{-4-6}}={\frac {1}{5}}\,

Now the slope of the required line is {\frac {1}{5}}\,

The condition for two parallel lines is that their slopes are equal.

Hence the equation of the required line is

y+3={\frac {1}{5}}(x-4)\,

5y+15=x-4\,

x-5y-19=0\,
