Find x if $\log_{10} [98+\sqrt{x^2-12x+36}]=2\,$

Taking out the logarithm

$98+\sqrt{x^2-12x+36}=10^2\,$

$\sqrt{x^2-12x+36}=2\,$

Squaring on both sides,we get

$x^2-12x+36-4=0\,$

Solving

$x^2-12x+32=0\,$

$(x-8)(x-4)=0\,$

Hence the values of x are 8 and4
