Show that the points (-1,7),(3,-5),(4,-8) are collinear.

If we find the area of the triangle formed by the given vertices,

{\frac {1}{2}}|[-1(-5+8)+3(-8-7)+4(7+5)]|\,

{\frac {1}{2}}|-3-45+48|\,

The result is zero, which is the condition for the points to be collinear, hence the three points are collinear.
