Find the ratio in which the X-axia divides the line joining the points (2,4) and (-4,3).

Let the ratio be a:1

Hence the point is

\left({\frac {-4a+2}{a+1}},{\frac {3a+4}{a+1}}\right)\,

Now the point of divide is X-axis,i.e y coordinate is zero.

Hence

{\frac {3a+4}{a+1}}=0\,

3a+4=0\,

The value of a is -4/3.So the ratio is -4:3
