$x^{3/4}-x^{1/2}-x^{1/4}+1=0\,$

Substitute $w\,$ for $x^{1/4}\,$

So now you can write

$w^3-w^2-w+1=0\,$

Factor $(w-1)(w+1)(w-1)\,$

$w=1,-1,1\,$

$x^{1/4}=1\,$ and $x^{1/4}=-1\,$

$(x^{1/4})^4=1^4\,$ and $(x^{1/4})^4=-1^4\,$

$x=1\,$
